I know, it’s a pretty depressing time right now, I feel it too. I have not wanted to promote myself or even write anything because it’s like, who cares?
But then a colleague also doing social justice work reminded me that our work is needed now more than ever. Employees are still getting abused no matter who is in the White House. Plus, the abusers are feeling more emboldened to discriminate and just be jerks at work.
So in that spirit, I am happy to share that I am now offering myself up as a public speaker. For those following my long career in food advocacy, you know I have a LOT of experience giving talks, leading workshops, moderating panels, the works. I have always enjoyed public speaking as it’s fun to energize a crowd by speaking truth to power. No boring keynotes here!
So now I am taking those skills I honed from speaking about the politics of food and bringing them to topics on workplace abuse.
Whether you’re interested in creating a healthier work environment or navigating the complexities of toxic workplaces, my talks are designed to empower and educate audiences with actionable strategies.
Here are sample topics I am offering.
Topics for employers:
Hidden Costs of a Toxic Workplace: The impact on productivity & profitability
Legal Pitfalls of Allowing Workplace Abuse: Understanding the risks of ignoring harmful practices
Topics for employees:
The 10 Stages of Covert Abuse at Work
Navigating Abuse at Work: Strategies to protect your health and career
Understanding Legal Rights in the Workplace: Empowering employees
For White Women: Understanding our privilege and undoing our harm
I recently gave a talk on the “Legal and Ethical Challenges of Navigating Power Dynamics” at the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Orange County Chapter and it was a great success.
Whether you’re planning next year’s annual meeting, or need to fill slots for your monthly lunch and learn, your audience will love my engaging style. To quote my mentor, Marion Nestle:
“Michele Simon is a terrific speaker. She is clear, organized, and provocative. If you want groups talking up a storm afterwards, she’s the one.”
